What words would you use to describe the setting/atmosphere in the opening scenes?
In the opening scenes the setting is clearly set in 20th century as it is in war times and you can also tell by the buildings and the way people dress. The atmosphere in the opening scenes was quite mysterious as the boys started showing sides of not normal behavior early on and you could tell that this was the start of them leading to become criminals.

How is the sense of community represented in the East End of London?
The sense of community is represented quite positively in the East End as it shows the people who live there as quite loyal and as if they will back up there fellow people in the community and will stick together through a lot. We see that it is a strong community such as when the police are looking for The Krays father to go to war the community help hide him and distract the police officer.

How have The Kray twins personalities been shaped by events/circumstances?
Things that have been affected are things such as the closeness of the twins also they have felt and increase of strength and power. they also started to take advantage of weak and vulnerable people for business reason.
The way the twins personalities have been shaped is mainly down to there mother who is a strong influence in there lives. Such as there closeness to each other was key to there mother as she made them feel as if they were incapable without each other and that meant that they should always have each others backs. there feeling of invulnerability came from there mother as well as she made the feel as if they were indestructible when they had each other she constantly told them when growing up that no one would hurt them. they got taught to take advantage of weak and vulnerable people by a man when they were in prison as he told them that they would be feared and that they could make a good business out of making people fear them and that is exactly what they came to do.

  1. This is fairly well detailed Josh with some good references to the film but there is a little more room for detail and depth when you are exploring how the messages from the film are communicated.

WWW- Your answer to question 2 acknowledges the positivity of the representations of life for the Krays in their early days as a community and in question 3, you have discussed their invulnerability and how this is shaped by the events of the film.

EBI- you had given more detailed examples of events from the film in the form of quotes and commentaries of the key scenes and explain how these had shaped the twins. Also, you should aim to include an analysis of the mise-en-scene of the street and the setting and discuss how this also acts to create the sense of community.

Show me- reply to this post with some examples of scenes from the film and quotes and also explore the mise-en-scene of the setting of the twins' street and their home area.

  2. The mise en scene in the film in the opening 30 mins of the Krays is on the street where they grew up. This street represents the bond amongst people in that area as they are always spending time together and going to each others houses. This start shows why everyone sticks together later on in the film.

From the film you see many scenes that shapes the personality of them later in the film. One scene is when they say the same thing at the same time this shows how close they are also we see there control as a pair when they are in the playground when they are just pushing and shoving people out of there way.
